COOLERVIE’s precision recutting services restore your worn

NATURAL / SYNTHETIC / PCD DIAMOND Die

to like-new performance—offering a cost-effective resizing solution to maximize die lifespan and ensure flawless wire quality.

step 1

Initial Inspection & Cleaning

The die is thoroughly cleaned in an ultrasonic bath to remove drawing lubricants, metal fines, and debris. Technicians then inspect the die under a high-powered microscope to assess the depth of the wear ring and check for any micro-cracks in the blank. This determines the smallest possible size the die can be recut to.

Laser or Ultrasonic Machining

To remove the wear ring and enlarge the hole, the die undergoes precision machining.

Laser drilling is often used to rapidly cut away the worn material and establish the new basic geometry.

Ultrasonic grinding uses a shaped steel pin and diamond slurry to precisely re-profile the reduction angle and bearing length.

step 3

Profiling & Blending

A drawing die relies on smooth transitions between its zones (entrance, lubrication, reduction, bearing, and exit). During this stage, technicians ensure the angles are perfectly blended. An incorrect reduction angle can cause poor lubrication and immediate die failure.

STEP 4

Wire Polishing

Once the new geometry is cut, the die is polished using highly graded diamond powder and a high-speed wire polishing machine. This step restores the mirror-like finish required to produce high-quality wire surfaces and minimize drawing friction.

step 5

Final Calibration & Quality Control

The recut die must pass the exact same rigorous QC checks as a brand-new die. Technicians use laser micrometers and profile projectors to verify that the bearing diameter is accurate to the micron and that the internal geometry is flawless.
